Flat Blues win ahead of Gibraltar (0-3), Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé scorers

The France team continues its faultless. Opposed to Gibraltar (201st in the FIFA rankings), the Blues won without forcing (3-0). They thus consolidate their first place in Group B with a third victory in as many matches. Olivier Giroud (1-0, 3rd), Kylian Mbappé (2-0, 45th+3) are the French scorers. Aymen Mouelhi (3-0, 78th) scored against his side. On Monday, Didier Deschamps’ players will receive Greece to complete the first leg of these qualifications for Euro 2024 on a high note.

Deschamps: “We should have scored more goals”

The French will ultimately not have done better than Greece and the Netherlands. Beaten 3-0 in their first two outings, the Gibraltarians suffered an identical price against the vice-world champions. From the first minutes, the French team put their foot on the ball and spent their time in the opposing half of the field. A perfect cross from Kingsley Coman landed on the head of Olivier Giroud who opened the scoring from close range (1-0, 3rd). The Milanese brings his total to 54 achievements.

This was followed by an endless defense attack where crosses and strikes (33 in total) were linked. But efficiency will have been the big black point of the evening with only nine shots on target. Giroud (13th) and Camavinga (29th) did not find the frame when others were frustrated by the crossbar or the post. Aurélien Tchouaméni (29, 89), Antoine Griezmann (52nd) and Axel Disasi (90th) thus hit the uprights of an otherwise well-inspired Dayle Coleing.

Mbappé uninspired but scorer

The Lincoln Red Imps goalkeeper thus won ahead of Kingsley Coman (14th), Eduardo Camavinga (29th), Kylian Mbappé (52nd) and Ousmane Dembélé (82nd). The Parisian striker has rarely been successful with missed controls, rough passes or blunt strikes. But the top scorer in the French championship still managed to put his name on the scoreboard by converting a penalty he had himself obtained by provoking the hand of Roy Chipolina. His cross shot close to the post deceived the vigilance of Coleing (2-0, 45th + 3).

In their respective lanes, Theo Hernandez, on the left, and Kingsley Coman, on the right, brought constant danger in the last thirty opposing meters. Jayce Olivero and Ethan Britto have suffered considerably against the Munich hooks. The centers that followed were unfortunately not always of the same level as what had preceded. For their first in the France team, Brice Samba and Wesley Fofana had a quiet evening.

But Ayoub El Hmidi could have surprised the Lensois goalkeeper, too advanced in his area, with a distant lob (34th) before a disagreement with the Chelsea defender remained at the thrill stage. Alone up front, the Gibraltar striker spared no effort without managing to create chances given his team’s 29% ball possession. Aymen Mouelhi cut the trajectory of a cross from Kylian Mbappé and scored the last goal of the evening against his side (3-0, 78th). The Habs are now turning to their duel with Greece on Monday to break away at the top of Group B.
