The midwives of the Maymard maternity in Bastia in Corsica have been on strike since Friday evening and will be until Monday, October 25, 8 p.m. As a result, five women who gave birth on Saturday were transferred by ambulance with their babies from the Maymard clinic to the Bastia hospital center, reports
France 3 Corsica. The Corsican Regional Health Agency (ARS) had announced in a press release to be able to “ensure the continuity of the care of mothers and babies as well as emergency reception”. The other mothers-to-be whose term could arrive this weekend have been notified by text message.

Contrary to the strike of October 7, the midwives of Bastia would have this time asked not to be requisitioned. It is for this reason that the ARS and the hospital decided by mutual agreement to proceed with these transfers. “We have the impression that they are using this strike to test an operation, an organization without us, simply with the hospital, without taking the patients into consideration”, lamented to France 3 Isabelle Filippi, wise – woman striker at the maternity hospital in Maymard.
Midwives complain of a lack of upgrading of their status and a salary that is too low. The latest salary increases announced by the government, namely a bonus of 100 euros net and a salary increase of approximately 100 euros gross per month, do not seem to have convinced them.
