On Wednesday in Iran, five men were sentenced to death after being found guilty of kidnapping and raping a woman in May 2022 in the northwest of the country, the body of the Judiciary Authority announced.

Nearly 300 people executed since the beginning of the year
In early June, Amnesty International (AI) reported that 282 people had been executed in Iran in 2023, “almost double” the number of executions recorded during the same period last year.
Iran executed 582 people in 2022, more than any other country except China, according to several human rights NGOs, including AI. In early July, Iranian justice reported the execution of three men convicted of drugging and then raping a dozen women at the end of 2021 in a beauty salon.
