Five young French people accused of “sexual assault” in a meeting by a young Briton have been imprisoned on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, the Civil Guard of the Spanish Balearic archipelago said on Wednesday. In the same case, a Swiss was also taken into custody.
The facts took place “on Monday at dawn in a hotel in Magaluf, those arrested are already in prison by order of the judge”, a spokesman for the Civil Guard, the Spanish equivalent of the police station. “The Civil Guard is continuing the investigation, which was opened for sexual assault,” he added, without being able to give more details, simply confirming the nationality of the accused and the complainant.

The local press claims that the six young men are accused of rape, but the Civil Guard spokesman assured that the reason for the investigation did not specify the nature of the sexual assault. In Spain, the term “sexual assault” is a criminal category that includes several crimes, including rape.
