He recently became a new visiting professor at the Munich University of Television and Film (HFF): Tucke Royale, 39, award-winning author of radio plays and screenplays. He has also worked as an actor, filmmaker and producer and has appeared on various stages with performances and his own band.

On Monday, January 15th, the film school will show the film “Neubau” by Johannes Maria Schmit from 2020, which was awarded the Max Ophüls Prize. Royale wrote the screenplay, co-produced and starred. In the Brandenburg province, Markus is torn between his love for his grandmothers in need of care and his longing for a free life in Berlin. In daydreams, a crowd of dazzling demons appears to him as harbingers of a queer family of choice that will free him from his loneliness. When he falls in love with Duc, everything becomes even more complicated.

Tucké Royale grew up in Saxony-Anhalt, became involved in the gay and lesbian scene and adopted the stage name. He studied Jewish studies in Berlin and puppetry at the Ernst Busch drama school. His solo pieces “Tucké Royale” and “I bite my tongue and eat the toppings my raven parents left me for breakfast” have been shown internationally. The musical “You didn’t expect Dolores,” written with Johannes Maria Schmit, premiered in 2017 at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. The “Neubau” film screening begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a conversation with Tucké Royale. Admission free.

The second edition of “Establishing Shot” will take place on Saturday, January 20th under the title “Comic for Everyone”. The event is intended for everyone interested in comics, artists and consumers alike. The organizer is the “Comic in Bavaria” initiative, led for the first time by Michael Khambekar. The 42-year-old says he has been fascinated by comic art since he was in elementary school. At first it was Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse that enriched his life, but since puberty he has loved the satirical Mad magazines with the title character Alfred E. Neumann. They filled many meters of shelves in his home, said Khambekar. “I have to have everything from Mad there is.”

The business graduate describes himself as a “comic enthusiast” and as such he has been involved in the Munich scene for many years. He was a co-organizer of the Munich Comic Festival and also a member of the jury of the Comic Café in the workshop cinema. Khambekar has curated exhibitions by the Munich illustrators Frank Schmolke (“Night in Paradise”), Uli Oesterle (“Father’s Milk”), Benjamin von Eckartsberg and Thomy von Kummant (“Gung Ho”). He has now found a new task at “Comic in Bavaria”, financed by the Ministry of Culture, among others. Topics in “Establishing Shot 2” include the financial woes of illustrators, journalism and comics, as well as collaboration with publishers.

It starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. The venue is Monacensia, Maria-Theresia-Straße 23. The day will be recorded on YouTube. Admission is free, but registration is required at [email protected].
