On Sunday, July 16, there will be a benefit screening of Dörrie’s film comedy “Freibad” (2022) in the Westpark at Kino, Mond & Sterne in aid of “Artists for Kids”: Different cultures, religions and dress codes meet in a German women’s outdoor pool. The Munich start-up Isar Aerospace has developed a launch vehicle for small and medium-sized satellites that are to orbit the earth in low orbits. The start-up also wants to organize rocket launches for its customers. The Founders Daniel Metzler, Josef Fleischmann and Markus Brandl recently won the “TUM Presidential Entrepreneurship Award”. All three studied aerospace at the Technical University of Munich and worked on rocket engines in a student research group. After founding the company in 2018, they built the first prototypes in the high-tech workshop Maker-Space. You have already passed several rounds of financing. Isar Aerospace now employs around 350 people in Ottobrunn. The rocket’s first test flight is scheduled for later this year. The vision: a launch into orbit every week.

Jan Philipp Weyls Feature film is a “declaration of love to Ethiopia”. At least that’s the subtitle of “Running against the Wind”, which premieres on Wednesday, July 12, at the Rio Filmpalast, Rosenheimer Strasse 46. The young filmmaker and his team have confirmed that they will be there that evening. Weyl, born in Krefeld in 1987, studied film production and media management at the Munich University of Television and Film, as well as anthropology and art history at the LMU.
He discovered his love for the country on the Horn of Africa through the “People for People” foundation initiated by actor Karlheinz Böhm. Together with like-minded schoolmates he founded the donation association “Moltke-Schüler für Afrika”. According to its own statements, the association has so far financed the construction of two schools in Ethiopia with more than 120,000 euros. After Weyl had collected a good 23,000 euros in donations as an eighth grader, Böhm invited the pupils to take a look at his foundation’s development projects. In 2005 Weyl traveled to Ethiopia for the first time, but it didn’t stop with this one trip.
In the meantime he has lived there for a few years, learned the language of the inhabitants and dealt intensively with their mentality and culture. Weyl explains that he made the film to show the world Ethiopia, the people and their ethical and traditional values through the eyes of two young men who are ready to fight for their dreams and goals in life. “Running against the Wind” was Ethiopia’s first Oscar entry in 2020 in the category “Best International Feature Film”. The film will be in cinemas from July 20th.

The Munich Clinic has a new chief physician. Stefan Bock, 46, is an internist, haematologist, internal oncologist and palliative care physician. He studied medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, remained loyal to the university clinic and was most recently involved in the establishment of the visceral oncology center there. He also has a Masters in Healthcare Management. Böck inherits Meinolf Karthaus, who will retire next year. Böck sees advancing the wide range of clinical studies at the Munich Clinic and leading the clinic locations into the future as an important focus of his work.
