Fischbachau: On the trail of the Leberkässemmeln – Bavaria


It has long been one of the standard slogans of traffic researchers that those who build roads also reap road traffic. Why should it be any different for the Fischbachau community in the Miesbach district? On the other hand, Wendelsteinstrasse in the Hammer district existed before, and it had been for a long time. Only last year the municipality had the narrow road paved – and since then it has had a problem with heavy traffic.

More and more trucks are now squeezing through the settlement, it was recently said by residents. The reason for this, however, is not that the route between the nearby gravel works and the B 307 via Wendelsteinstrasse would be so much shorter or faster for 40-ton trucks. Rather, the reason is apparently the meat loaf, to which the community paved the way for truck drivers with their asphalt.

At least that is how the whole problem recently presented itself in the Fischbachau municipal council. It is true that the trucks from the gravel works would certainly have mastered Wendelsteinstrasse in its former, asphalted state. But the new road surface seems to have made the detour via the butcher’s shop really attractive if necessary.

That could of course please the butcher, and maybe it does, but the pavement in his courtyard entrance is apparently more damaged by the 40-tonne trucks that have been shuffled around than he gets from the additionally sold meat loaf. This is the information from the Fischbachau building authority, which, according to its own statements, could hardly use the butcher’s special profit and loss account as a sufficient reason for a tonnage restriction on the apparently robust asphalt road.

However, a little further south there is a narrow bridge over the railway line, and this bridge is in fact not designed for heavy traffic at all. So the community will soon implement the resolution of its local councils and put up signs stating that driving on Wendelsteinstrasse is only allowed up to a total weight of twelve tons. And without a truck that would definitely be enough for a lot of liver loaf rolls.
