Anyone who retires now will be notified first: The German Pension Insurance has sent the first letters about the basic pension, in which the amount of the surcharge is stated. Anyone who is already receiving a pension has to be patient for a while.
More than six months after the official start of the basic pension, the first pensioners in Germany receive their basic pension notices. The dispatch of the first pension notices with statements about the basic pension surcharge has started, announced the German pension insurance in Berlin.
According to the authorities, an enormous amount of advance was necessary to check who would receive a basic pension according to the legal requirements. Among other things, a new data superhighway between pension insurance and tax authorities was built. Because the payment of the basic pension is preceded by an income test.
“Everything automatically”
According to the pension insurance, the contract was launched as planned. Nobody has to submit an application – everything happens automatically.
Pension notices have now been sent to new pensioners – for the first time with information on whether and, if so, in what amount they will receive a basic pension. The premium is paid to people who have earned little over the years. Anyone who is already receiving a pension and is hoping for an improvement in their income through the basic pension has to be patient for a while.
Payout retrospectively
In total, the pension insurance plans to check seven to eight million pensioners this year to see whether they will get the premium. All 26 million pensions are to be checked by the end of 2022.
Payments will be made retrospectively from January 1st. At that time, the supplement to old-age pension, pension due to reduced earning capacity or pension due to death was introduced. The basic pension was introduced by the Union and the SPD after a long dispute.
