First edition of the street food classico between Parisians and Marseillais

And another defeat for Marseille against Paris. Not on the lawn of the Vélodrome stadium this time, but a few dozen meters away, at Parc Chanot in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), where the Food’in Sud fair was held from Sunday to Tuesday. For its fifth edition (the event takes place every two years), this fair for professionals in the catering sector organized, for the first time, a street food classic around two associations. The Food Trucks Association, which brings together around sixty food trucks from the Marseille region, facing the Street Food in motion, which brings together nearly 120 food trucks in the Paris region.

Two Marseille teams faced two Parisian teams on the theme of the burger, then a Mediterranean dish, with the obligation to include at least three ingredients from the Mediterranean. And it was finally the Street Food in motion that won this first classico, thanks in particular to a chicken burger cooked at low temperature, dried tomatoes, pesto, hazelnuts, among others.

If this competition is a nod to the rivalry between Paris and Marseille, it above all highlights the place taken by street food in the restaurant industry. In 2020, fast food outweighed its table-service counterpart in market share. Nearly 54%, according to data from Food Service Vision. A first in the history of out-of-home catering.
