Just before rush hour in the morning, a fire breaks out in a high-rise building. The firefighters quickly rush to the scene. But for some, any help comes too late.

At a At least five people have died in a high-rise building fire in Hong Kong. More than 15 others were injured in the fire in the morning (local time) and taken to hospital, several media outlets such as the “South China Morning Post” reported, citing the police. According to official information, the fire broke out around 8 a.m. The fire department received numerous calls for help, it said.

The fire reportedly broke out in a gym. After about an hour it was under control. Rescue workers evacuated numerous people from their homes using turntable ladders, as can be seen in photos.

People in the area around the densely populated metropolis have now been instructed to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke and stench. The administration of the affected district of Yau Tsim Mong set up a special contact point to provide assistance to the population if necessary. According to authorities, people who needed help could also seek protection in a community center.
