Firefighters are battling the blaze in the north of the country for the eleventh consecutive day

Eleven days that the flames ravaged the forest of Dadia in the north of Greece. According to the firefighters, three outbreaks remain problematic in this national park of the European Natura 2000 network, known for its important habitat for birds of prey. Near the Dadia forest, the Rhodopes region is also facing renewed fires. A total of 475 firefighters with 100 vehicles, 6 planes and 4 helicopters are mobilized on these two fronts.

The fires in August left 20 dead, nineteen presumed migrants, including two children, found charred in the Evros region and a shepherd who died trying to save his flock in a region of central Greece.

A disturbing fire north of Athens

In addition, in the north of Athens, the forest fire which affects Mount Parnes, one of the green lungs of the capital, continues to worry the authorities while recoveries are observed. On this front, 260 firefighters with 77 vehicles and a helicopter are deployed.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is due to meet with several ministers on Tuesday to discuss the reforestation needed after the fires in the Evros region and on Mount Parnes. This year, more than 120,000 hectares have been burned so far across the country, according to estimates by the Greek National Observatory.
