Eintracht Frankfurt is threatened with a ghost game in the Champions League. Before the group game at Olympique Marseille, fans of both clubs fought violent pyrotechnic clashes at the Stade Velodrome on Tuesday evening. Flares were fired at the opposing supporters from both fan blocks and firecrackers were thrown. At least one Frankfurt supporter was hit and injured, and others left the stadium early for safety reasons. Images on the Internet that show two Eintracht fans doing the Hitler salute also caused a stir.

For Frankfurt, the events could have drastic consequences, since the SGE had been sentenced by the European Football Union to ban spectators in the next international game after the pitch storm in the Europa League semifinals against West Ham United. The sentence had been suspended for two years, but could come into force after the incidents in Marseille. So far, however, Uefa has not commented on possible investigations.

Arrests the night before

The night before the game, there had already been clashes between the fan groups in the southern French port city. As was officially confirmed to hr-Sport, there were eight arrests during the night. It is not known to which groups the fans belong.

Again Wiesbaden courier reported, there had been fights and manhunts on the streets, the lobby of a hotel had been stormed, whereby the police and security services were able to prevent worse things from happening. Local Frankfurt fans also report of OM fans who approach passers-by to find out whether they are German.

Strict rules for Eintracht fans

The French authorities had already announced in advance of the game strict rules for Frankfurt away fans enacted For example, the Hessians should not be in certain areas of the city, should not sing any fan chants and should not wear fan paraphernalia. Eintracht Frankfurt also strongly recommended that their fans adhere to these guidelines.
