Was it arson? A carelessly stubbed out cigarette? That still needs to be clarified. In any case, strong winds in the afternoon fanned the flames again. What’s next?

Strong winds fanned the forest fire that broke out a week ago near Jüterbog in Brandenburg, according to the operations management on Wednesday. The plan is to fight the fire on the former military training area from the air again. A federal police helicopter and a fire-fighting aircraft should arrive on Wednesday, said head of operations Rico Walentin.

After an initially more relaxed situation, stronger winds came up in the morning than in the past few days. “We suddenly had a bright fire,” said Walentin. The fire spread rapidly and rapidly.

“This is a fight against windmills,” said the operations manager. “There’s just no end in sight.” The fire in the ammunition-loaded area broke out on Wednesday evening last week. The fire brigade cannot approach the source of the fire directly because of the risk of explosion in the area.

The fire brigade keeps a path a few meters wide wet on Wednesday so that the fire does not spread to another area. A measuring drone is also used to gain insight into the extent of the fire. Walentin initially did not provide any information on the affected area on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighting aircraft and a helicopter were already in action last week, but not since the weekend.
