Fire in the construction train near Traunstein: the train route between Salzburg and Munich is closed – Bavaria

After a construction train caught fire, the Munich – Rosenheim – Salzburg route between Übersee and Traunstein was completely closed. This was announced by the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) on Sunday evening.

A two-day lockdown should be expected. In the fire on Sunday afternoon, a lot of diesel fuel leaked and got into the ground. For environmental reasons, the ground must now be excavated over a large area. Passengers will probably only be able to travel on the BRB between Munich and Rosenheim and between Salzburg and Freilassing on Monday. Attempts are being made to run a few more trains to Prien in the morning. Passengers are asked to be on the BRB website informed before departure.

The closure also affects long-distance traffic. According to Deutsche Bahn, there are delays and cancellations on the route between Munich and Salzburg because the route can only be used on one track.

Loud Bavarian radio report hundreds of passengers were stranded between Übersee and Traunstein on Sunday evening. The situation only calmed down shortly before midnight.
