Forest fire: Mano, the Landes village evacuated again

On July 19, the village was completely emptied of its inhabitants because of the worrying progression of the Landiras fire. This time, the pine forest ignited at the doors of the houses, with the key to the evacuation of forty people

The black smoke can be seen for miles around. Numerous means are on site: 99 firefighters from the Landes and 71 from the column of reinforcements coming from the West, 47 fire-fighting devices, as well as a dozen gendarmes. Two Canadairs and a Dash have already made several drops to try to put out the fire. It would have already ravaged nearly thirty hectares of a pine forest (figures from 7:30 p.m.).

Evacuation

Several sites are to be protected, the railway which passes nearby and the houses which are located in the perimeter. As a preventive measure, eight houses were evacuated, i.e. 12 people. A sheltering solution was proposed by the municipality of Rion-des-Landes. At this point, no homes have been affected by the flames.

On the other hand, the mayor of Laluque, Christophe Martinez, confirms that “the fire has already jumped the railway”.

The traffic of TER and TGV trains interrupted in the afternoon will not resume in the evening, warned the SNCF. Traffic, interrupted around 3:30 p.m. between Morcenx and Dax, “will not resume this evening”, according to a spokesperson.

On the Bordeaux-Hendaye and Bordeaux-Dax-Tarbes lines, “three TGVs to Paris from the south of Bordeaux were held up at Dax station. They will return to their station of origin, ”added the SNCF. Several hundred travelers are affected by this interruption of traffic which also affects the Saint-Jean station in Bordeaux.

Françoise Tahéri, prefect of the Landes, activated the departmental operational center in order to coordinate the action of the services. She went there, as well as Thierry Baron, sub-prefect of the district of Dax, Christophe Martinez, mayor of Laluque, and Laurent Civel, president of the Community of communes of the Tarusate country. She asks the Landais to avoid the sector and not to relay false information on social networks.
