Fire in a pharmaceutical warehouse

A major fire broke out this Thursday morning in a 3,000 m2 warehouse located in the millennial district of Montpellier and belonging to a pharmaceutical company.

The nature of the company’s activities raised fears of a chemical hazard. A school in the neighborhood was confined, several homes evacuated and electricity cut in the neighborhood. The mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse (PS) went there.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters brought twenty-two people present on the site to safety and evacuated an employee who had inhaled smoke to the University Hospital. The fire was quickly contained in the morning and any risk of chemical pollution seemed to have been eliminated. The unit specializing in chemical risk has nevertheless begun to check the part of the warehouse affected by the flames.
