Fiona May: “Outwardly I am strong, but secretly I am suffering” – Economics

Fiona May won medals at the Olympics. Today she sits on the supervisory board of the sporting goods manufacturer Puma and examines the conditions under which its products are created. The path there wasn’t always easy for her.

Fiona May gets on the bus in Ho Chi Minh City early in the morning, slightly tired. She is in Vietnam on the way to a shoe factory. As one of the best track and field athletes in the world, May has never cared about the conditions under which her equipment was manufactured. As a member of the supervisory board of the sporting goods manufacturer Puma, her job today includes reviewing the company’s sustainability promises.
