Germany’s most renowned public prosecutor gives up. She is disappointed because the government is not fighting hard enough against black money. The politicians should actually know what to do.
A renowned and committed public prosecutor gives up and moves to a non-governmental organization. That rarely happens. Anger and disappointment must have been huge for the 50-year-old Cologne senior public prosecutor Anne Brorhilker. She headed Germany’s only main department for cum-ex investigations. Cum-ex transactions are said to have cost taxpayers an estimated twelve billion euros. Now she is switching to the financial transition citizens’ movement. Her reasoning is a slap in the face for German politics: “I have always been a prosecutor with heart and soul, but I am not at all satisfied with the way financial crime is prosecuted in Germany.”
