Refugees from Ukraine can exchange banknotes from their local currency hryvnia for euros in Germany from Tuesday for an initial period of three months. As the Federal Ministry of Finance announced, they may exchange a total of up to 10,000 hryvnia at the participating German banks and savings banks. This currently corresponds to an amount of around 317 euros. The exchange takes place at the exchange rate announced by the Bundesbank. Any losses that banks may incur as a result of the exchange rate risk should be borne by the federal budget. In the draft budget for 2022, expenditure of up to 52.5 million euros is planned for this.
