Parliament grows larger from election to election. And nothing has come of the traffic light promise to limit growth. But now someone is pushing.

The appeal was overdue. Bundestag President Bärbel Bas has now called on all parliamentary groups to quickly agree on reducing the size of parliament. And she has set a target: “By the beginning of 2023 at the latest” there must be a clear decision on the main features of the electoral reform. Bärbel Bas is like many citizens: she despairs of the inability of the parliament to limit itself.
