The second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy does even better than its predecessor, released in 2010. Testers give dream ratings and make Rebirth one of the best games of the current year.

Debut at the top

An average of 93 out of 100 possible points is awarded by more than 100 testers Metacritic. There are therefore a whole range of aspects that arouse enthusiasm, but above all that Square Enix skillfully expands and expands locations and characters: the classic is successfully rethought and feels “fresh and yet familiar” (GamesRadar) at.

Open world with depth

In the second part, whose playing time is estimated at at least 60 hours, the world opens up in favor of playful freedom in a way that The Sixth Axis almost referred to as “overcorrection.” The fact that a conventional open-world blueprint is used here is annoying, for example GameSpot little: story and gameplay are closely linked, activities are significant. Testers write that side missions are also excellent.

Only the high number of mini-games and tasks is occasionally found to be “overloaded”, GameSpot also finds the middle part of the game to be too stretched, Twinfinite found the beginning of the game too repetitive. However, everyone finds it fun, which also seems to be due to the gigantic selection of offers.

The story, narrative and characters are also clearly praised – The Sixth Axis speaks of a “lesson in retelling”. The game manages to skilfully switch between serious and absurdly funny scenes without making itself ridiculous, writes Destructoid. Improvements to the combat system are also praised. It is now more accessible and has useful new options, especially synergy attacks. Rebirth is therefore like Remake “with more polish, refinement and depth”, in the opinion Dual Shockers.

The PC is definitely coming

Currently, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can only be purchased for the PlayStation 5. However, that doesn’t mean that the PC will go empty-handed. The predecessor, simply called a remake, also received a port more than a year after its initial release.
