New “Spider-Man” succeeds in excellent theatrical start

With the blockbuster season kicking off in the US, “Spider-Man-Across the Multi-Verse” has done well at the box office.
The animated film “Spider-Man: Across the Multi-Verse” has had the second-best start of the year in North American cinemas. The sequel to a film that started in 2018 grossed $120.5 million (€112.3 million) in the US and Canada, according to preliminary figures from industry magazine Variety. The leader in 2023 will remain another animated film with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”. It earned around 145 million US dollars on the opening weekend in early April.
“Spider-Man” is also doing well outside of North America. According to “Variety”, the comic adaptation has grossed almost 88 million US dollars in 59 countries so far, including Germany and Switzerland. The film is estimated to have cost around $100 million. In the US, the period after Memorial Day weekend at the end of May is traditionally seen as the start of the summer blockbuster season, when many lavishly produced films with light entertainment start.
