Selena Gomez to play singer Linda Ronstadt in biopic

Songs like “You’re No Good” and “Don’t Know Much” made Linda Ronstadt famous. Now there will be a film about the eleven-time Grammy winner – with Selena Gomez in the lead role.
The actress and singer Selena Gomez (31) is to portray the rock singer Linda Ronstadt (77) in a planned biopic, as the industry newspapers “Variety” and “Hollywood Reporter” reported. Gomez posted a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir “Simple Dreams” in an Instagram story. Ronstadt, in turn, linked the industry reports about the project on Instagram and wrote that it started with a “simple dream”.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, producer James Keach (“Walk the Line”) and Ronstadt’s manager John Boylan are elevenfold behind the film project Grammy Award winner.
Ronstadt and Gomez both have Mexican roots. Ronstadt (“You’re No Good,” “Don’t Know Much”) has released two dozen albums in her long country-rock career. In 2014 she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Ronstadt ended her career over ten years ago due to a degenerative nerve disease. The singer was at times in a relationship with actor Steve Martin, director George Lucas and former California governor Jerry Brown.
Gomez appeared in films such as “The Big Short”, “Bad Neighbors 2”, “The Dead Don’t Die” and “A Rainy Day in New York”. Most recently she filmed the mystery series “Only Murders in the Building”.
