Along with Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the major film festivals. After this season, Tricia Tuttle will take over. Managing director Rissenbeek will remain supportive for six months.

Berlinale managing director Mariette Rissenbeek will be available for the Berlin International Film Festival six months longer than planned. “I’ll stay at the Berlinale for another six months in an advisory capacity. Tricia Tuttle asked me to do this,” the 76-year-old told the “Tagesspiegel” in Berlin. The 53-year-old American Tuttle will take over the management of the Berlinale in April.

The top of the festival will be completely rebuilt. Tuttle succeeds the previous management duo of Carlo Chatrian (52) and Rissenbeek. Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth announced last year that the Berlinale should only be managed by one person in the future. Chatrian then announced that he would be leaving the festival after the 2024 edition. Rissenbeek had already announced her departure.

For the first time in the history of the film festival, they took over as dual leadership in June 2019, with Chatrian as artistic director and Rissenbeek as executive director. With the return to the directorship model, Tuttle will take on both functions. Along with Cannes and Venice, the Berlinale is one of the major film festivals. The next edition runs from February 15th to 25th, 2024.
