US actor John Malkovich received an award in Bremen. At the award ceremony he talked about dogs – no coincidence.

The American actor John Malkovich (70) was awarded the Bremen Film Prize “The Golden Pug” – and spoke about his love of dogs at the award ceremony. This has to do with the fact that his little granddaughter is crazy about the animals, said Malkovich on Wednesday evening in Bremen. “And when I take her for a walk and she’s in her stroller, she knows where every dog in the neighborhood lives.” His granddaughter turns to him and shouts: woof, woof. Then he would have to bark too.

Malkovich reported this at the film festival after accepting the award in the form of a golden pug. The award, worth 8,000 euros, is always presented at the beginning of the festival. The film festival’s website said: “With John Malkovich, we honor an icon of Hollywood and European film – a character actor who easily reinvents himself with every role and yet always remains the unique John Malkovich, who appeals to audiences of all ages and ages backgrounds can captivate you.”

The laudatory speech for the character actor was given by German director Volker Schlöndorff (85), who made the film “Death of a Salesman” with Malkovich, among other things. “There is nothing better than praising a friend,” said Schlöndorff before the award ceremony. In the eulogy, he said that Malkovich had always remained true to himself throughout his long career.

Malkovich played a variety of characters, including agents, murderers and seducers. He recently played a rich London businessman in the comedy “Monsieur Blake at Service”. In “Seneca – Or: On the Birth of Earthquakes” he transformed himself into the loquacious Roman thinker Seneca. If he plays a historical figure again in the future, it should be one who talks less than Seneca, Malkovich told the German Press Agency.

At the Bremen Film Festival, almost 100 films of various genres will be shown until Sunday.
