Anyone who steps into the extension to the Starnberg District Office will notice it immediately: it smells new. Yes, the building is brand new. Although you have to look very carefully to see where the old ends and the new begins. That is intentional. And it succeeded. The new building will be officially inaugurated next Friday. On Monday, the members of the district building committee were allowed to take a look at the new rooms. On October 29th it will be the turn of all district councils. The district is also paying a lot for the neat new building. District treasurer Stefan Pilgram reckons with 23.4 million euros in the end.
The official building, built in the mid-1980s, has been considerably too small for a number of years. Because the workforce has grown tremendously in more than 35 years – to 572 employees today. You had to outsource offices and employees who have had offices around the city for years.

There will be 160 additional jobs in the new building, so that some outsourced offices can be brought back in the coming weeks and months. The schedule: The first thing is the youth welfare office. From October 29 to November 15, 70 employees will move with bags and bags from Moosstrasse to the new extension. Then you want to begin to straighten out the spatial situation in the old building. Because in many an office where an employee resided thirty years ago, three people are stepping on their toes today. There are also plans to bring the “Energy, Climate and Environment” office, which has previously been located on an upper floor of the Tutzinger Hof restaurant, back to the headquarters soon. The health department, however, remains in the Dampfschiffstrasse. And the child, youth and family counseling center will also remain on Moosstrasse.
For two years, the district office employees on Strandbadstrasse had to climb over mounds of earth, avoid construction vehicles, endure noise and dust. But perseverance was worth it. Because what the architect von Auer and Weber, who already designed the much-vaunted old building, Dominik Fahr, created together with Hans-Michael Lemmer from Kreishochbauamt, is really impressive: It is an ultra-modern building that is visually subordinate to the original . “It’s all of a piece,” says Fahr. Many a transition from the old to the new building can only be recognized by the details – for example, the central heating in the old building. The new building is tempered by a ceiling heating and cooling system. The groundwater for this comes from the in-house well on the site. The photovoltaic system on the roof generates the electricity that is needed to operate the pumps and heat exchange system. Conclusion: According to Lemmer, the building is CO₂ neutral. The offices are cool in summer and warm in winter. No air conditioning is required.
It’s no wonder that District Administrator Stefan Frey would have liked to pack his seven things in the District Office and move into the new building. However, his predecessor Karl Roth screwed up that for him. Because he has already decided: The district administration’s office will stay where it is.
