Festival of the future: Deutsches Museum offers free program – Munich

120 years of the Deutsches Museum, a year of new exhibitions: on July 8th and 9th, a festival will be celebrated across the entire Museum Island. From July 6th to 7th there will also be an international future conference in the Forum of the Future.

The entire Uferstrasse between Ludwigsbrücke and Corneliusbrücke becomes a science communication party mile at the weekend. The museum is open as usual every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a ticket is required. Outside, the free program begins on Saturday, July 8, at 9 a.m. and continues with a courtyard festival until 11 p.m. On Sunday, July 9, there is a stage program from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a slackliner shows his skills at a dizzy height . In the Forum itself, the former planetarium will become the Dome Stage. In the 360-degree full-dome projection there, artists show digital performances and allow visitors to immerse themselves in virtual worlds without VR glasses.

In the repair café on the Uferstraße, you can get help from experts in repairing toys, bicycles or small household appliances, you can make robots yourself and see them in action. Because the “Transformers” are coming – the machine people already had a big appearance together with Mayor Dieter Reiter at the inauguration of the renovated museum wing a year ago.

At the “Future Conference” there is of course less teasing and more entertaining information. For example, the astronaut Carmen Köhler comes to the “Face the Future Now” talk to talk about courage, confidence and the possibilities of “Tech for good”. Köhler, who was originally trained as a hairdresser, is specifically targeting young people who have just graduated from high school and want to find their way professionally (Fri., July 7, 5:30 p.m. Planetarium). A ticket must be purchased for the conference.

All in all: At the festival of the future, its own beer garden and various food trucks ensure that nobody runs out of energy to celebrate.
