Almost two weeks before Easter, Ferrero has to recall some of its surprise eggs. The recall comes after several people fell ill with salmonella in the UK.

With more than 60 cases of salmonella in the UK, Ferrero recalled some batches of Kinder Surprise Eggs just under two weeks before Easter. The food safety agency said the recall had “a possible link to a salmonella outbreak.” Around 63 people in the UK, mostly young children, have contracted salmonella, the PA news agency reported on Monday.

There are also said to have been some infections in Germany, France, Sweden and other European countries. In France there was also a recall of Ferrero products after 21 cases of infection, as the health authorities in Paris announced.

The following batches are affected by the Ferrero recall

The UK recall affects lots with a best before date between July 11th and October 7th, 2022, all manufactured at the same factory. Customers are advised not to eat surprise eggs with these characteristics. However, other Ferrero products should not be affected. British health authorities are investigating the effects.

Ü-Eier: Figures are worth a small fortune among collectors.

As the French health authorities announced, it is genetically the same salmonella that are responsible for an outbreak of salmonella diseases in Great Britain and Ireland. The affected children’s chocolate products are all manufactured in a factory in Arlon, Belgium. According to French information, the Belgian food authorities are investigating in this regard.
