Six women were murdered in Austria in a short period of time, five of them in just one day. The suspects in all cases are men. The problem is not exclusive to the Alpine republic – but it is particularly pronounced there. Why is that?
Some in Austria call February 23, 2024 “Black Friday”. In the morning, the police found a 51-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter dead in their apartment in Vienna-Erdberg. They were strangled. Number one, number two. In the evening, passers-by discover a trail of blood leading to a house, a brothel in Vienna-Brigittenau. Police later confirmed the deaths of three sex workers. They were stabbed. Numbers three, four and five.
Monday, February 26, 2024. In the morning, police officers found an 84-year-old dead in her apartment in Eschenau, Lower Austria. She was shot. Number six.
