Female singers are dominating the Munich jazz scene these days – Munich

“Voices of Winter” – what the Bayerischer Hof announced this month as the motto for the night club, will set the tone for jazz everywhere in the next few days. The Swiss singer Hannah Weiss starts with indie jazz at the Bayerischer Hof with her first-class group. Lucia Appel and her trio take over the next day. Two of the most prominent Scandinavian voices, Rebekka Bakken and Silje Nergaard, can be heard elsewhere. Typically between jazz and pop, Bakken even says: “I play with jazz musicians, but I don’t know anything about jazz myself.” Especially since the Norwegian only turned to music at the age of 25, after studying economics and philosophy. During her solo in the Prinzregententheater, one can expect that she will celebrate folk and pop songs for adults with her clear, yet very bluesy four-octave voice. Her compatriot Silje Nergaard, who was the first Nordic jazz vocalist to get a record deal with an American major label, also loves pop music and Christmas songs. But she still navigated every kitsch cliff with confidence, thanks to her fantastic piano accompanists (for a long time it was Tord Gustavsen, now it’s Espen Berg). And will certainly do the same in the underpass.
