Nonfungible tokens (NFT) have received a lot of media attention. But experts agree that there are still gaps that need to be addressed. For example, only 16% of NFT creators are women. which is a vast gender gap which reflects the women in today’s NFT ecosystem.
Based on a survey conducted by Art Tactic and published byBloomberg It found that female artists accounted for only 5% of sales in the NFT market, while male artists accounted for 77% of sales (16% were unknown artists and 2% were created overall).
However, some NFT projects are trying to address this issue, with Rarible being one of them. Rarible has prioritized supporting women-led NFT projects, with Masha Vyazemskaya, head of communications at Rarible, and Rebekah Keida, chief marketing officer at Rarible. XBTO talks about gender inequality in the NFT area.
The tech sector has always been dominated by men, which Vyazemskaya believes “must be encouraged for more women who want to enter the NFT area.”
“As the industry continues to grow It is important that we support our female artists and inventors. including promoting and supporting their work and giving them more opportunities to shape the future of the industry.”
She also described the challenges female creators face when entering NFT for the first time, saying: “The traditional tech industry has always focused on men’s ambition and success. This creates the misconception that technology is primarily for men.”
“Education” is an important first step in encouraging more women to participate in the NFT industry, so we set a precedent for future generations of innovators that the NFT sector is a “community for women”.
Rebekah Keida of XBTO said, “It’s true. This industry is just beginning. So no one is Truly ‘experts’, we are all learning together. The more we can promote the concept of equal access and resources. The more the area will welcome new crypto users and more women who want to participate.”
In her opinion, the NFT community is one of the “most supportive” and a lot of valuable communication and interactions happen on social media and internet marketplaces like Rarible.
