Felwine Sarrs novel The Places Where My Dreams reside – Culture

With his essay “Afrotopia”, published in 2016, the writer and economist Felwine Sarr from Senegal wanted to shake up his continent. Colonialism is long gone, but Africa has never achieved intellectual and cultural independence. Colonial rule has been replaced by other forms of immaturity. Africa must reflect on its own cultural strengths instead of the worn-out myths and doctrines of the West, then a great future awaits it with the wealth of its natural resources and with its young population. The essay and report on the restitution of African cultural heritage that he wrote with Bénédicte Savoy for French President Emmanuel Macron have made Sarr one of the best-known postcolonial thinkers.
