Germans with wanderlust are happy to be accompanied by camera teams, the genre of emigrant documentaries has a permanent place on private television. They often go to Mallorca, where they meet other Germans who want to open kebab shops, karaoke bars or fish spas just like them. In this respect, the young couple from the cinema documentary “Step by Step” is something special: The filmmaker Felix Starck (“Expedition Happiness”) and his pregnant girlfriend Valentina also want to go to Mallorca, but they lease a piece of land there and grow vegetables. They have little idea about this (which in turn makes them a good match for the other Mallorca emigrants), but they balance their naivety with an extra portion of optimism. As part of a cinema tour, the two present their film in Munich.
