The possible savior is infected: The new coach of Hertha BSC Berlin, Felix Magath, has tested positive for the corona virus. He missed his team’s first game against Hoffenheim.
The football club Hertha BSC has to do without the man who was hired as a rescuer for the time being in a critical phase: The new coach Felix Magath, 68 years old, has tested positive for the corona virus, as the club announced on its website. “He’s fine so far. He’s almost symptom-free,” wrote the club.
Magath only started his new job as head coach last Monday. Fredi Bobic, Managing Director Sport, signed Magath to succeed the hapless Tayfun Korkut in order to keep the club, which was threatened with relegation, in the Bundesliga. The game against TSG Hoffenheim is on Saturday. Hertha is currently in 17th place in the table, which would mean direct relegation to the 2nd division.

Magath’s commitment caused some criticism and astonishment. He is considered a “grinder” who uses outdated training methods. The last time Magath was coach of VfL Wolfsburg was in October 2012 on the sidelines in the Bundesliga.
