Feldafing: Municipal council agrees on location for containers – Starnberg

In January, the Feldafinger municipal council had postponed the decision on a location for accommodating refugees, on Tuesday everything happened very quickly: the committee unanimously agreed that the community-owned area behind the children’s home on the station square should be used for container accommodation. The property is to be leased to the district for an initial period of five years – with the option of extending it by a further five years. In Wörthsee, Tutzing and Feldafing there have not yet been any container facilities. But in the past few weeks, each of the three district municipalities has made a location available for refugees, the homeless and displaced people.

The district has currently exceeded the prescribed number of people who have to be admitted according to the distribution key, said Mayor Bernhard Sontheim. But the district office expects, according to him, that more refugees will have to be cared for by April at the latest. The district wants to be prepared so that people don’t have to be housed in gyms again. Every municipality must now do its part, emphasized the head of the town hall.

The municipal council had initially targeted a property on the Starzenbach, but that is in the landscape protection area. Further alternatives were then proposed in January: These included the area at the station square and the Villa Carl property near the Hans Albers villa. However, the latter is unsuitable from the point of view of the district office, especially since the state office for monument protection had objections and there are also no supply options. In addition, it is located directly on the corridor boundary to Tutzing. Due to this spatial proximity, the new residents would probably orient themselves more towards the neighboring community – integration in the Feldafing community was therefore not possible, the authority found. The Alte Post site on Bahnhofsplatz, which the owner had offered, has also been eliminated.

The chosen site is “excellent” due to its location, says the district office.

The property south-west of the station square, on which the container facility is now to be erected, was also viewed with skepticism in January. He had assumed that the area was too small, explained Mayor Sontheim. But the district office had examined the site – and came to a different conclusion: the authority also came to the conclusion that the majority of the property on a slope was not suitable for the construction of a container system. However, the district building authority considers a comparatively small area in the northwestern area to be sufficient to be able to set up containers for up to 120 people.

In addition, the location has other advantages from the point of view of the district office: As it says in the letter from the authority, “the connection to the property is excellent”. All proposed plots of land for refugee accommodation in Feldafing were assessed according to specified criteria – such as timely implementation, costs, plot size, proximity to the site, shopping facilities within walking distance, public transport stops and routes to school. The area at the station square apparently performed best.

According to Sontheim, it is in the “absolute town center”, the S-Bahn station and a supermarket are in the immediate vicinity. Families and young men are to be accommodated there. The best experiences have been made with mixed groups, according to the head of the town hall. According to his information, however, the water and waste water problem could not be clarified in the short time. That will be submitted later, said Sontheim.

District master builder Christian Kühnel has also not been able to give any further details on the planning. For cost reasons, planning normally only begins once a location decision has been made, he said. However, Kühnel promised to present the plan immediately as soon as the first results were available.
