Game consoles and headphones are in demand in Corona times. The import of entertainment electronics is growing strongly. The traditionally particularly strong Christmas quarter is still pending.

The demand for game consoles, headphones and digital cameras from foreign production has increased further in Germany. From January to September, entertainment electronics with a total value of 7.7 billion euros were imported, as calculated by the Federal Statistical Office.

According to the Wiesbaden authority on Tuesday, that was 878 million euros or 12.9 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. There was also an increase compared to the first three quarters of 2019 – by 9.4 percent. The consumer electronics business usually gets another boost in the final quarter of the year as part of the Christmas business.

About half of the imported entertainment electronics came from Asia according to the information. The most important country of origin was China with a share of 39.2 percent of the value of the devices imported between January and September inclusive. With a share of 7.8 percent, Japan was third among the most important countries of origin after Poland (10.8 percent).
