No negative corona test: Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier wanted to make a flying visit to Poland tomorrow. But nothing comes of it – the result of a PCR test at the head of state is positive again.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had to cancel a trip to Poland planned for this Tuesday because of his corona infection.

A PCR test was again positive, said the Office of the Federal President. Steinmeier very much regrets the cancellation, as the trip was particularly important to him. It should be rescheduled as soon as possible. The head of state had tested positive for the corona virus on Tuesday last week.

During his first trip abroad of his second term in office in Kraków, Steinmeier wanted to take part in the funeral service for the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, who died in March 2020. His planned speech will now be read by the German Ambassador Arndt Freytag, it said. A meeting and lunch with Poland’s President Andrzej Duda was also planned. Steinmeier said he wanted to send a signal to Poland right at the beginning of his second term and emphasize the country’s role as a key partner of Germany.

A visit to a Caritas reception center for refugees from Ukraine was also planned, where, according to the Presidential Office, Steinmeier also wanted to bring medication as a donation. He also wanted to acknowledge the great Polish achievement in taking in those seeking protection.
