Federal President Steinmeier and the double anniversary – politics

The Federal President has written a book for a good reason: 75 years of the Basic Law and 35 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Why he still thinks that you can’t “celebrate with calm complacency”.

Federal presidents have many tasks, and writing books is not necessarily one of them. Still, many have done so – some on amazing topics. Now Frank-Walter Steinmeier is also among the authors. He has written an essay more than a hundred pages long – it will be published soon with the title “We”. The blurb is already known. “The Basic Law was proclaimed 75 years ago, and the Berlin Wall fell 35 years ago,” it says. But Germany “cannot celebrate this double anniversary with calm complacency.”
