Significantly more unauthorized entries into Germany

The Federal Police detected significantly more unauthorized entries into Germany in September than in previous months. According to the Federal Police, a total of 21,366 such entries were registered last month – an increase of around 50 percent compared to August.

More than 92,000 people entered Germany illegally this year, the federal police said. In September the number had even doubled compared to July. In 2016, almost 110,000 cases were counted.

In September 2023, the federal police counted 21,366 migrants who entered the country illegally – around twice as many as in July with 10,714. It was the highest monthly figure since February 2016, when 25,650 people were registered.
