Air rescue stations across the country are affected. A total of seven civil defense helicopters cannot be used temporarily. There are problems at these locations.

Several federal civil defense helicopters cannot be used temporarily due to a technical defect. That said a spokeswoman for the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) in Bonn. The “Neue Westfälische” had previously reported that seven civil defense helicopters currently have to remain on the ground due to a technical defect. The air rescue stations in Frankfurt/Main, Hanover, Kassel, Duisburg, Bielefeld, Hamburg and Siblin in Schleswig-Holstein are affected.

According to the federal police, damage to a control rod was first noticed on a helicopter when the radio system was modified, the newspaper reported. The company commissioned has already made similar modifications to twelve other helicopters. After becoming aware of the first defect, the responsible federal police flying group for the BBK carried out random tests on other helicopters and brought similar damage to light. In order not to endanger flight safety, the affected helicopters were initially taken out of flight operations.

It is not yet certain when they will be able to fly again. According to the newspaper report, the federal police are working flat out to determine the damage and to resume flight operations as quickly as possible. The two air rescue stations “Christoph 14” in Traunstein and “Christoph 17” in Kempten-Durach, which have rescue winches, are not affected by the damage.
