Skilled workers from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria are also to fill the staff gap in German day-care centers. Lisa Paus promotes a quick training – and says: “It’s not easy.”

Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) wants to integrate refugee educators into the German labor market more quickly. “Educators are systemically relevant, we must do everything we can to eliminate the bottleneck,” said Paus of the “Bild am Sonntag”. “I bring everyone who can contribute something to the table, and together we examine the training, the working conditions in the day-care centers or the recognition of professional qualifications for people who are new to our country. Something will happen, we are your turn.”

Paus admitted that the current shortage of skilled workers in daycare centers is a real problem. Her ministry is currently in intensive talks with the employment agency about the use of Ukrainian, but also Afghan and Syrian specialists. “It’s not that easy, because the day care center is also about language training, knowledge of German is essential. Many refugees have already completed language courses, so there could be greater potential that we want to activate soon,” said the Greens politician.
