After years of worldwide debate, the federal government is getting serious about the fight against tax trickery by large corporations. This emerges from a bill by the Treasury Department to introduce a minimum tax Süddeutsche Zeitung present. The project is based on a joint initiative by almost 140 countries and is intended to prevent multinational companies from playing the individual countries off against each other and deliberately shifting the bulk of their profits to where the tax burden is particularly low. Instead, from 2024 onwards, they will have to pay at least 15 percent to the tax authorities.
