Federal Government: New dispute over the debt brake – politics

Defense Minister Pistorius warns that we are not prepared for an escalation with Russia. And calls for a debt trick. There are also problems with pensions. How the federal government is once again wrestling with itself.

Coalition breaks are very rare in the history of the Federal Republic, but twice they have had to do with budget issues. In 1966, the FDP terminated its alliance with the Union because measures such as cutting the cheese subsidy were not enough to plug holes in the budget and Chancellor Ludwig Erhard (CDU) therefore wanted tax increases. In 1982, the FDP switched from the SPD into a coalition with the CDU/CSU due to a dispute over budget and economic policy. And in 2024, all traffic light partners will confirm that they want to stay together – even though a lot is brewing.
