Green Youth: Climate money would be a measure against the right

“The fact that Christian Lindner is burying the climate money for this legislature as a side note is a slap in the face for climate protection,” says Svenja Appuhn, co-head of the Greens’ youth organization. photo

Finance Minister Lindner rejected calls for climate money in this election period. This is causing dissatisfaction among the Green Youth.

The green Youth reacted indignantly to statements by Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), who only wants to decide on the payment of the planned climate money in the coming legislative period. “The fact that Christian Lindner is burying the climate money for this legislature as a side note is a slap in the face for climate protection,” said the co-head of the Greens youth organization, Svenja Appuhn, to the German Press Agency in Berlin. “Anyone who so carelessly gives up the urgently needed social balance is wasting majorities for climate protection and risking people being driven into the arms of the right-wing.”

Lindner had told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”: “From 2025 we can technically make a per capita payment. We are therefore on schedule. Whether we politically restructure the funding landscape in this direction will have to be decided after the next election. ” Lindner said the idea of climate money is to transfer the income from the per capita CO2 price back to people. This would mean that climate money would replace current funding for heating, building renovations or electric cars.

“In times of massive economic and social uncertainty, making people’s lives more expensive through the price of CO2 without ensuring social balance is socially explosive and only benefits those who have always been against climate protection,” explained Appuhn. “It’s nice that government members are taking part in demonstrations against the right – but it would be even better if they actually implemented a policy that deprived the right of breeding ground. Climate money would be exactly such a measure.”
