The Federal Government has identified a changed threat situation due to the war in the Middle East. Interior Minister Faeser said the danger comes primarily from individual Islamist perpetrators.

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser warns of Islamist attacks in Germany. There is a changed threat situation that the federal government is taking very seriously, the SPD politician told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “Islamist lone perpetrators are a danger that exists at all times.”

According to the newspaper report, the Federal Criminal Police Office assumes that the war in the Middle East is likely to “develop a high level of threat to the security situation in Germany.” If the conflict escalates further, people could see this as encouragement to carry out an attack.

“Strong wave of emotionalization”

The CDU politician Christoph de Vries, who is a member of the Interior Committee, spoke of a “strong wave of emotionalization among many Muslims and jihadists.”

He therefore described the threat to the FAS as enormous.

Arrests on Thursday

Just on Thursday, three men were arrested who are said to have prepared an attack on Jewish institutions in Europe. They are two stateless Palestinians born in Lebanon and one Egyptian national. At the same time, a Dutchman was arrested in the Netherlands. All are said to be members of the banned terrorist organization Hamas.

The German security authorities learned about information from ARD capital studio and SWR from a foreign intelligence service about the suspected attack plan. The accused were then identified, wiretapped and observed. Apparently there has not yet been any concrete attack planning.

Interior Minister Faeser banned Hamas and several organizations associated with it in November.
