“A regional conflagration would have incalculable consequences,” appeals Annalena Baerbock to Iran and Israel.

Foreign Minister After Iran’s attack on Israel, Annalena Baerbock warned that the situation would worsen further. “I call on all actors in the region to act prudently,” said the Green politician on Sunday in Berlin. “The spiral of escalation must be broken. We must work together to end the violence.” She warned: “The millions of women, men and children in Israel, in Iran and throughout the region who could not sleep last night because of fear, they all do not want this escalation.”

The situation in the region is being monitored very closely and we are in close coordination with various partners, said Baerbock. “Of course, this also concerns the question of what consequences will follow the Iranian attack.” The question is how Israel will react to the attack. Baerbock called on Iran to refrain from further attacks, including through proxies. “A regional conflagration would have incalculable consequences.”

Baerbock harshly condemned Iran’s nighttime attack with drones and missiles. “The Iranian regime has clearly led the entire Middle East to the brink of the abyss,” she said. “We strongly condemn the direct Iranian attack on the territory of Israel. Germany’s full solidarity extends to Israel.”

Crisis team meeting

The global condemnation of the Iranian attack and the support from the USA, Great Britain and the region show that Iran is isolated with its “aggressive behavior” and that Israel can defend itself.

Baerbock, who had previously chaired a meeting of the crisis team, appealed to German citizens in the region to take the travel warning for the region very seriously. The Foreign Office warns against traveling to Iran and Germans are asked to leave the country.
