Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz wants to build 400,000 apartments – politics

If only everything went the way it does here. Klara Geywitz trudges through the construction site sand, to the right and left the new apartment buildings shine, cream-colored, pastel red, inviting – and state-sponsored. The building minister looks around the inner courtyard. “Social housing, you shouldn’t even notice that,” she says. Trams used to be parked here and tennis was played here, now almost 800 apartments are being built, and the first people will be able to move in next spring. The vast majority of apartments are reserved for people with low or middle incomes, for 5.50 euros or seven euros rent per square meter – and that in the middle of popular Potsdam.
