Fear of death and trauma among Heidi Klum’s models

On Thursday, several models reached their limits: an extreme situation during the shoot caused panic and brought back bad memories.

In episode eleven of “Germany’s Next Top Model” Heidi Klum had a very special challenge in store for her protégés: the universally dreaded underwater shoot was coming up. The models were supposed to make it sizzle in the cool water in front of the camera, dressed as bridal couples. The set was a pool-lined wedding chapel.

While many candidates like Frieder and Sara, who can be seen in the post above, delivered, two models struggled quite a bit – because they were confronted with emotional memories from the past.

Candidate Mare panicked when the task was announced. She has been afraid of water since she was a child because she was pushed into the pool as a non-swimmer. In the pool she could hardly calm down, moving hectically and tensely. “Underwater it’s like this: I’m dying. I’m dying,” she tried to describe the situation.

Stella’s husband died shortly after the wedding

For Stella, trauma also came to the surface during the shoot – not caused by the water, but by the wedding dress she had to wear. The mother of four married for the first time when she was very pregnant. Shortly after the wedding, while she was still sending the thank you notes to the guests, her then husband died of a heart attack.

Seeing yourself in a wedding dress again brought back memories of the bad times. “I had my whole life in front of me back then. But when he died, I couldn’t even imagine that I could breathe without him,” Stella cried in front of the camera. However, the 34-year-old was able to pull herself together during the shoot and ended up going one further round – in contrast to Mare. She had to leave the show, just like Max. Now 18 candidates are fighting for the title of “Germany’s Next Top Model”.
