FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr: “We have to exercise moderation”

The chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag rules out a budget emergency for 2024. The economic situation is challenging. “But it is not a new exceptional situation.”

Mr. Dürr, what exactly is wrong with you? Christmas before?
Celebrate at home with the family.

Or negotiate a budget with Social Democrats and Greens in a conference room?
We will be talking a lot about the future of budget policy in Germany in the coming weeks and probably even months. But it doesn’t have to be on Christmas Eve.

Will you agree on the budget for 2024 this year?
We have to implement the judgment one-to-one. That’s why I don’t speculate on timelines. We are doing that now in the short term for the 2023 budget. And we will do that for 2024 too. The Constitutional Court has strengthened the debt brake. The political answer shouldn’t be: OK, then let’s soften it.
