FC Bayern: Nagelsmann comeback? Effenberg has doubts

FC Bayern’s search for a coach remains a complicated one. Xabi Alonso will remain loyal to Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season. Roberto De Zerbi leaves his future at Brighton & Hove Albion open. And Julian Nagelsmann? The national coach is associated with a return to Munich. Stefan Effenberg is not really convinced by the thought game.

“I have a bit of problems with this idea,” said Effenberg in the “Sport1 one-two”. “He was a coach at Bayern Munich. There were reasons why he was kicked out.” Nagelsmann had to retire from Säbener Strasse in March 2023. The 36-year-old is tied to the DFB until after the European Championships in the summer.

You would first have to ask Nagelsmann the question, “Are you even ready to go back to where you were kicked out a year ago?” the TV expert noted. “So I doubt that this situation will happen again,” added Effenberg.

“What do you want to see down there?”

Xabi Alonso recently publicly committed to Bayer Leverkusen. Roberto De Zerbi is high on the list of candidates on Säbener Straße. The Italian recently left his future at Brighton & Hove Albion open. Ralf Rangnick (Austria national coach) and Roger Schmidt (Benfica) are currently also considered candidates to succeed Thomas Tuchel.

“For me the question is: What do they want to see down there? What type of person do they want, what type of coach do they want for the team?” said Markus Babbel in “Doppelpass”. The topic of “leadership” is “crucial” for him, said the former FC Bayern professional.

“Why was Ottmar Hitzfeld so successful? Why was Jupp Heynckes so successful? Why was Hansi Flick so successful? Not because they were the tactics gurus. They just managed to form this team so that everyone gets along and is involved,” Babbel analyzed with reference to some former FC Bayern coaches.
